Taesun (Korean: 태선; Hanja: 太扇; IPA: [tʰɛ.sʰʌ̹n]; Revised Romanization: Taeseon) is a masculine pen name of a South Korean female fantasy writer best known as the creator of the novels Dusk Howler (2009–2016), The Dragon Master (2011–2015), Master of the Divine Beasts (2016–2017), Chitra (2017–2019), and Doctor's Rebirth (2020–present) that received webtoon adaptations.

Names[]

Taesun doesn't usually post photos of herself or mention her real name, but the Korean Creative Storytelling Association website has photos from her wedding to Seong Sangyoung and mentions that her real name is Park Soyoung (Korean: 박소영; IPA: [pak.sʰo̞.jʌ̹ŋ]; Revised Romanization: Bak Soyeong) (link).

Her official alias is Taesun (Korean: 태선), but she sometimes goes by the aliases Park Taesun (Korean: 박태선; IPA: [pak.tʰɛ.sʰʌ̹n]; Revised Romanization: Bak Taeseon), Soraneko (Japanese (Kanji): 空猫, Soraneko, "sky cat"), Yoineko (Japanese (Kanji): 酔猫, Yoineko, "drunk cat"), Skycat, skycat86, and Steam Cat. Park (Korean: 박; Hanja: 朴, "calabash", "bottle gourd") is a Korean surname, Taesun (Korean: 태선; Hanja: 太扇, "a large hand fan", from Chinese: 太 , "highest", "greatest", and 扇 , "a punkah", "a hand fan") is a Korean masculine given name, and Soraneko, Yoineko, Skycat, skycat86 and Steam Cat are typical Internet nicknames.

None of her works have an official English translation, so different English websites have different English spellings of her name: Taeseon, Tae Seon, Tae-seon, Taesun, Tae Sun, Tae-sun, Teosan, Teo San, Teo-san, etc. Her Chitra webtoon received a licensed French translation, and the French description of this webtoon spells her name as "Taesun".

Life and career[]

At different times, Taesun liked such anime, manga and novels as Honey and Clover, 4LEAF (Children of the Rune) (Winterer, Demonic), Fullmetal Alchemist, Slayers, Pokemon, SKT - Swallow Knights Tales, Ouran High School Host Club, Gundam, Evangelion, Code Geass, etc. She considers Honey and Clover, Children of the Rune and Fullmetal Alchemist to be the biggest influences in shaping her worldview. At first, Taesun wrote fanfiction, and when her writing skills improved, she began to write her original works. Her first official novel, Game Master Mion, began to be published by Balhae as a paperback series on May 25, 2006, and since then she has earned her living by writing.

She is married to Seong Sangyoung (Korean: 성상영; IPA: [sʰʌ̹ŋ.sʰa̠ŋ.jʌ̹ŋ]; Revised Romanization: Seong Sangyeong), the author of The Gamer webtoon (2013–present) and the founder of the Golem Factory content company (2015–present).
